The Federal Resource Center for Children of Prisoners/Child Welfare League of America

The Resource Center is conducting research and evaluation, collecting and disseminating information, providing training and technical assistance, and increasing awareness among the many disciplines and service systems that come in contact with families separated by incarceration.  www.childrenofprisoners.org

The Family and Corrections Network is an organization for and about families of prisoners. Legal Services for Prisoners with Children - Located in San Francisco, LSPC advocates for the human rights and empowerment of incarcerated parents, children, family members and people at risk for incarceration. JusticeWorks Community, a nonprofit organization based in Brooklyn, New York, was founded in 1992 by criminal justice experts, former prisoners, and religious leaders in response to the social crisis triggered by the tripling of the female prison population in one decade. www.justiceworks.org

 

The Women’s Prison Association in New York is the nation’s largest service and advocacy organization working directly with criminal justice-involved women.  WPA houses the Institute on Women & Criminal Justice, a new national center for dialogue, research, and information about criminal justice-involved women, their families and communities.  www.wpaonline.org

The Prison Policy Initiative worka to show that our criminal justice system has a profound and negative impact on democracy itself.  Their Prisoners of the Census project demonstrates how the practices of incarcerating prisoners in remote communities and barring them from the polls combine to dilute the voting power of the poor, urban communities most prisoners come from.  http://www.prisonpolicy.org
